POLIPLAST 08

Coating of high resistance for tanks and cisterns designed to contain aggressive substances and solutions

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

POLIPLAST 08 is an epoxy product, which is used to obtain very thick coatings with a limited number of coats. POLIPLAST 08 is made up of inorganic pigments and inert charges, dispersed in liquid epoxy resins, containing no solvents which harden by reaction with aromatic epoxy polyamide adduct (LR HARDENER).

The coating which is obtained is a compact film, free of pores, a glassy finish, with optimal resistance to most aggressive chemical agents both acidic and basic.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

POLIPLAST 08 + LR HARDENER are indicated for the coating of internal surfaces of tanks and cisterns for the chemical industry, galvanic plants, tanks for fuel, etc.

PACKAGINGS

STORAGE

POLIEPLAST 05 + S HARDENER will be ruined by freezing. Store the packagings at a temperature between 10°C and 40°C for no longer than one year.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

1) Remove powdery parts or parts not perfectly anchored by brushing. In the case of surfaces in bad conditions, proceed with sandblasting or chiselling until revealing a healthy surface.

2) Eliminate any traces of dust by means of oil-free compressed air.

3) Proceed with the application of a coat of undercoat and of consolidation with Epoxidro 03 + E Hardener.

4) When necessary, fill the irregularities of the support with Epostuc D45 + M9 Hardener (see technical sheet).

5) 12-48 hours after the undercoating or filling, apply a coat of POLIPLAST 08 + LR HARDENER prepared following the procedure as in the paragraph 'preparation of the mixture'.

N.B: It is possible to reinforce the coating with fibreglass, by interposing it between the coat of EPOSTUC D45 + M9 hardener and the finishing coats of POLIPLAST 08.

PREPARATION OF THE MIXTURE POLIPLAST 08 + LR HARDENER

To the container of POLIPLAST 08 add all of the HARDENER, mix thoroughly with spatula or helical agitator. The packagings are already predisposed to the following ratios.

POLIPLAST 08           :100 parts in weight

HARDENER                : 50 parts in weight

After mixing POLIPLAST 08 with LR HARDENER the hardening reaction begins which is faster the higher the temperature of the products and the quantity of mixture prepared. At a temperature of 20°C, a mass of 15 Kg of mixture should be applied within 20 minutes. At a temperature lower than 5°C there will be no hardening reaction. In the case of particularly cold temperatures or for the need of more fluidity, warm up POLIPLAST 08 by immersion in warm water at a temperature of 40-50°C before adding LR HARDENER. However take into account that warming up reduces the useful life of the mixture.

Optimal results of the coating are obtained by applying the mixture without diluting it, or better dilution should be avoided.

APPLICATION OF THE MIXTURE POLIPLAST 08 + LR HARDENER

POLIPLAST 08 + LR HARDENER can be applied with air-less gun, or with brush or roller. (Immediately after the application clean the tools, by washing them with TM Thinner).

During the application and for 2 days after, the temperature of the support should remain between 10°C and 50°C; the relative humidity should not exceed 85%. In any case avoid humid supports or condensate.

Average thickness per coat 150-200 microns
Average practical yield 2.0-2.5 m2/Kg for a thickness of 200 microns
Drying at 25°C dust dry : 12 hours

complete : 24 hours

Use of the article after 4-6 days

FEATURES OF THE COATING AFTER COMPLETE HARDENING

- Appearance of the film  : glossy
- Recommended thickness 450-800 microns (in specific cases up to 1000 microns)
- Porosity (pore test on conductive support at 2000 Volts, thickness of 250 microns) no pores
- Hardness (Bucholz DIN 53153 at 25°C) 90
 - Drawing (Erichsen DIN 53156 at 25°C) 1 mm
 - Service temperature from -40°C to +80°C/
- Radioactive radiance The film of POLIPLAST 08 is practically not sensitive to radioactive radiance. The coating has been subjected to radioactive cobalt radiance for 3 weeks; no measurable yellowing was detected. The features of drawing, porosity, chemical resistance, likewise suffered no variation
- Opacity to X-rays POLIPLAST 08 contains, as inert charges, barium sulphate. The isolating effect to X-rays is caused by this component and therefore depends on the applied thickness.
Decontamination The film obtained with POLIPLAST 08 exhibits good decontamination features
